Visit to SCM Tainan Student Centre Strengthens Ecumenical Fellowship and Movement Building

On the afternoon of 14 April, Yowanda Yonggara, Regional Executive and Global Program Director of World Student Christian Federation Asia-Pacific, together with Global Ex-Co Jacquelyn, visited the SCM Tainan Student Centre in Tainan as part of an ongoing movement-building initiative and to strengthen relationships with local Student Christian Movement (SCM) communities in Taiwan.

The visit provided an important opportunity to deepen engagement with the ministry and mission of SCM Tainan. During their stay at the SCM Tainan Student Centre, the Regional Executive and Global Ex-Co member learned about the rich historical journey of the movement, its contribution to student ministry, and its continuing witness among young people in the region. Conversations during the visit highlighted the center’s longstanding commitment to nurturing faith, leadership, critical reflection, and social engagement among students.

A special fellowship gathering was also organized, bringing together students from Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology and Tainan University of Technology. The gathering created a meaningful space for sharing experiences, building friendships, and strengthening ecumenical solidarity among students from diverse backgrounds.

Through dialogue, storytelling, and fellowship, participants reflected on the challenges and opportunities facing young people today while exploring ways to strengthen the student Christian movement in Taiwan and across the Asia-Pacific region. The gathering reaffirmed the importance of accompaniment, mutual learning, and regional cooperation in sustaining vibrant student movements that are rooted in faith and committed to justice, peace, and human dignity.

The visit concluded with renewed commitments to collaboration and partnership, reflecting WSCF Asia-Pacific’s ongoing vision of fostering strong, interconnected, and transformative student movements throughout the region.
